v4.34.2 — Content search covers Word, Excel, and Markdown

Searching inside your documents now works with all your text files. The content search introduced in 4.34.0 only found text from documents scanned with OCR and from transcriptions; now it also searches inside .docx (including their tables), .md, .txt, spreadsheets (.xlsx/.csv), and PDFs with a text layer. Type a word that only appears in the body of a Word proposal and the document will come up, with its “content match” label. The documents you already had are indexed automatically after the update (a few hundred per hour); anything new you upload is searchable immediately — and if you edit a document by any means (editor, WebDAV, chat), the search catches up on its own.

Folders inside the case, without the noise. The folder panel in a case’s Documents tab no longer shows every client and case in the instance: only the case’s client and the case itself, with its folders by task, by ticket, and by tag one click away.

Two known limitations: .pptx presentations don’t yet take part in content search, and scans without a text layer still require OCR to be searchable (as before). No action is required on your part.

Fix. In 4.34.0, any search that touched document content returned “Connection error.” This release fixes it: content search with relevance ranking works as announced. Immediate update recommended for every instance on 4.34.0.

v4.34.0 — Search inside your documents and browse virtual folders

The search bar now finds documents by what’s INSIDE them. The global search (the magnifying glass at the top) is no longer limited to titles and file names: it searches the text recognized by OCR and the transcriptions of audio/video. Type a word that appears in the body of a filing and the document will come up, marked with the “content match” label, sorted by relevance and with prefix wildcard matching (searching “contract” also finds “contracts” and “contractor”).

Virtual folders in the Documents panel. You can now see your documents grouped into folders without moving any files:

• By tag: one folder for each tag on your documents, both globally and within each case.
• By task (within a case): one folder for each task that has linked documents.
• By ticket (if you use the tickets module): one folder per ticket with documents, provided by the module itself.

The same document can appear in several folders — they’re views, not copies: a badge next to the breadcrumbs reminds you which view you’re looking from, and deleting still means deleting the document. Folders open from the sidebar, with counters and breadcrumbs just like in a file explorer.

When you update, the search index is created the first time the system starts (it takes a few seconds). Otherwise, no action is required on your part.
