v4.24.0 — Audio and video in the viewer, robust transcription and AI image descriptions
Play audio and video directly in the viewer. Audio and video files now play with the browser’s native player inside the document viewer, instead of the old “Unsupported format.”
Transcription that actually turns on, and now for video too. Detection of transcribable files no longer depends on the file type reported by the browser (which for .m4a, .ogg or .mov often arrives as generic and left the transcribe button invisible): it now recognizes the format by its extension, so the option always appears when it should. Video support was also added (mp4, mov, mkv, webm…): it’s transcribed by extracting its audio track.
Image OCR with AI description. When you apply OCR to an image, the vision model, in addition to transcribing any text it contains, describes the image. That description is added as visible text below the image in the generated PDF, becomes part of the searchable content, and you can view it in a viewer panel that opens from the OCR notification. It’s controlled with the OCR_IMAGE_DESCRIPTION_ENABLED option (on by default); if no vision key is available, the description is simply skipped and OCR keeps working the same.
Video transcription and the additional video formats require rebuilding the transcription service; otherwise, no action is required on your part. (Video as an uploadable file type remains optional in Settings › Documents.)
